SALINAS(BCN)
The Salinas Police Department reports that they deployed taser darts against a man with a history of mental illness Wednesday night after he was allegedly disturbing the peace.
According to the police, the incident occurred at 10:28 p.m., near East Market Street and North Sanborn Road, when Juan Serifan Martinez was allegedly pushing his shopping cart in a reckless manner between vehicles in the middle of the intersection.
When an officer attempted to remove Martinez from the road, he allegedly pushed his cart at an accelerated speed toward the officer, police report.
The officer was attempting to slow the cart and subdue Martinez, when a second officer approached and deployed the taser darts, which did not have an affect on the suspect.
A third officer arrived on the scene, and assisted in subduing Martinez.
Martinez, 34, was treated at a local hospital for unspecified injuries and taken into custody, police report.
One officer suffered minor bruises to his right arm that did not require medical attention. |
